Hundreds of people crammed into St Keverne square for the village band's 45th annual ox roast last Wednesday. Fine weather, non-stop entertainment and plenty of delicious meat combined to make the event a huge success and raise a substantial sum for band funds.
The day began early with the fire being lit under the spit and the dedicated team of stokers ensuring the meat was perfectly cooked in time for the afternoon's grand opening and auction.
This year's event was officially opened by former St Keverne resident and band member Mel Smith, who now lives in Australia but had planned a holiday in Cornwall especially around the ox roast.
The microphone was then handed over to auctioneer Tony Harris, of Lodge and Thomas, who managed to secure an impressive £310 from Three Tuns landlord Will Lea for the first slice. Not to be outdone, White Hart landlord Mark Saffill quickly snapped up the second slice, and there were plenty of customers eager to buy the rest of the meat.
