CHARD-based charity ActionAid is hoping to bring awareness to the plight of Niger.
The country was ravaged by a plague of locusts which destroyed last year's crops, and now it has fallen victim to drought.
Three million of a total of 12 million people are now under threat of imminent starvation.
Working in Zinder, Niger, ActionAid will be working in partnership with Aide et Action, SOS Sahel and International Development Enterprises to help people by setting up micro-irrigation systems for vegetable production, providing fodder for livestock, supporting a community managed cereal bank.
ActionAid is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee, which has now launched an emergency appeal to help families who are suffering in Niger and the neighbouring countries of Mauritania, Mali and Burkina Faso.
