CHARD Town Football Club stalwart Britan Beer is stepping down as chairman to concentrate on the battle to find the club a new home.

This week he told the News the neew 999-year leasees for each of the football, tennis and cricket clubs were nearly all signed and sealed.

Once in place, the new lease will mean the football club would get 40% of the price paid for the Zembard Lane ground if it were to be redeveloped.

The club would then use the money to buy another site and build new facilities, including up to three football pitches.

The location of the sites is under wraps but negotiations are on-going.

"We have a couple of sites in mind and are in consultation with one of the landowners who is showing some interest," said Mr Beer.
