FALMOUTH TOWN 0 - GOONHAVERN 0. GOONHAVERN making their Carlsberg South Western League debut will be by far the happier of the two teams after the opening game of the 2005/06 season.

Falmouth were left to rue the chances they missed and despite their dominance, they faltered where it mattered most - in front of goal.

Town fielded a completely new team from last season with only Martin Day remaining from the previous season's team, although Steve Winnan and Ryan Brokenshire were named among the substitutes.

Town had the first chance of the game after three minutes. A corner was pumped deep into the box where Bradley Ralph met it, but his header went over from six yards.

Falmouth continued to dominate with the visitors rarely venturing forward. Town next had an effort on 22 minutes. Nathan Perrott managed to control an aerial pass but his shot on the turn was easy for 'keeper John Mitchell.

A misunderstanding between Mitchell and a defender forced Goonhavern into conceding a corner. The kick was taken short to Mike Body, whose cross found Ralph at the far post. He headed it back across goal to Tom Chambers whose powerful header was well saved by Mitchell and although Chambers was first to react, it was Chris McCaskie on the line who cleared the danger.

In the 27th minute, Goonhavern missed a great chance to shock their hosts. Lee Dark found himself clear of the Town back line in a one-on-one with Penhaligon, but the Town player-manager made a brilliant reflex save to keep the scores level.
