WADEBRIDGE TOWN 4 - TRURO CITY 1. "I'M still in shock," said Truro City manager Steve Massey after his side had been turned over 4-1 by unsung Wadebridge Town in their opening Carlsberg SWL fixture at Bodeive Park on Saturday.

"If this had been a movie it would have been x-rated, it was that horrifying. I think the Wadebridge ground is a bit of a hoodoo for me because when we went on our long unbeaten run at Falmouth last season we lost at Wadebridge 3-0."

For 45 minutes there was nothing to suggest that anything other than a City victory would be the final outcome. Town's threat had been so rare that City goalkeeper Paul Hider was virtually reduced to spectating, but a goal out of nothing changed the picture dramatically and like the famous pack of cards - City collapsed against nothing more than a puff of wind.

"The result left me numb," added Massey. "It had been one-way traffic and I couldn't see any way that we would lose the game. I told the players at half-time to be patient and the goals would come. Unfortunately they came at the other end. They had one overhead kick, a spectacular goal, and we couldn't recover from it. It's as simple as that.

"After our pre-season friendlies I couldn't see us conceding one goal let alone two, but we presented Wadebridge with four opportunities and they took them all.

"After the game the dressing room was as shell-shocked as me, but now we have to bounce back and ensure Torpoint feel the backlash.

"This result is really hurting for me and the players, it's not nice. The expectations were high, but now we've been given a reality check and have conceded four goals in one game. Hopefully, we will have made all our mistakes in one game and instead of one in each of the four games that could prove even more costly.

"We've only lost one game, so it is not the end of our championship bid, but we do need a good performance against Torpoint to restore confidence."
