Stunned but delighted, the chef of a popular Truro pub is celebrating after scooping over £100,000 on the National Lottery Lotto draw - despite her daughter's birthday preventing her from winning the £4.5 million jackpot.

Shelley Taylor, who works at the City Inn in Pydar Street, could not believe her eyes when she turned on Teletext to see five of her numbers plus the bonus ball appear on the screen. It wasn't until later that she realised she had narrowly missed out on picking all six, after she changed her numbers last month to reflect her eldest daughter Jaymee turning from seven to eight years old.

Shelley, who lives at nearby St Erme with her husband Barry and their three children, said: "I only changed them six weeks ago, when I changed the seven to an eight. If it had been a seven I would have won the whole lot. I'm not upset though. I couldn't cope with that much money - I can't get my head round this."
