A GOVERNMENT financial watchdog has been asked to probe Redruth town council's proposed plan to buy part of a town centre building to house a police station.
Redruth county councillor Graeme Hicks has written to the Audit Commission asking them to investigate the council's plan to purchase part of the Chambers, in Penryn Street, which is currently owned by Kerrier Homes Trust.
Mr Hicks, who has campaigned with Lanner and St Day councillor Mark Kaczmareck for better policing in Redruth and its surrounding villages, said he considered the plans, if true, to be a waste of taxpayers' money.
"I am extremely concerned that Redruth town council are contemplating the unnecessary purchase of a property from Kerrier Homes Trust.
