The owner of Porthleven harbour has condemned as "outrageous" a protest mounted by a local man at the weekend in a bid to draw attention to the neglected state of the port.

Three six-foot-high "Rest In Peace" crosses bearing abuse directed at local landowner Trevor Osborne were erected at the harbour near a section of wall that collapsed several years ago and has remained fenced off ever since.

Following a call to the police on Sunday morning, the crosses were removed.

A 56-year-old man from Porthleven has since been issued with an £80 on-the-spot fine for a public order offence. Concerns at the deteriorating state of the historic harbour have been uppermost on the local agenda for some time.

Mr Osborne, who is boss of the Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company, said this week he too would like to see the harbour repaired, but funding complications were preventing the work from being carried out.
