AS 2005 is officially the Year of the Volunteer what could be a better time to get on board with a local charity.
Somerset's has 3,080 charities, which are led by 16,000 voluntary trustees, who do everything from running charity shops to managing playgroups.
The Charity Commission, together with TimeBank, has launched a 'Get on Board' campaign to encourage more people to become charity trustees.
A spokesperson for the commission said: "We're looking for people with passion and commitment who can give time to making the decisions that matter when running a charity.
"In the Year of the Volunteer 2005 everyone has the chance to make a difference to their local charities and communities."
