Staff and pupils at Falmouth School were patting themselves on the back this week after the latest A-level results put the school well up the ladder for achievement.

Fifty students achieved a 94 per cent pass rate amid suggestions nationwide that the examinations are now too easy and they should be made harder.

But headteacher Sandra Critchley had nothing but praise for her pupils and commended their hard work which "culminated in this impressive outcome."

She told the Packet: "Almost all students who had applied for university places have been able to secure the places offered to them. All of the students have been a real credit to the school throughout their two years in the sixth form, taking on many additional responsibilities alongside their examination courses. The staff and I wish all of our students the continued success they deserve in their chosen careers and fields of study."

On Thursday, teachers and support staff were offering their congratulations to students and their parents, as well as giving advice and guidance to those considering the options available to them.

The 50 A-level students of Falmouth School's Sixth Form Centre achieved an overall 94 per cent pass rate at A-level, with most of the 20 or so subjects recording a 100 per cent pass rate.

Among the achievements of many, the results of four individuals were particularly impressive, said Mrs Critchley.

Caroline Hennah achieved four A grades - in product design, English language, mathematics and further mathematics. Ryan Curtis achieved three grades - in mathematics, further mathematics and physics, and also a C grade in product design.

Molly Bond achieved three grades - in product design (textiles), fine art, and media studies. Polly Stephenson also achieved three grades - in English literature, expressive arts and fine art.

Students at the end of the first year of their sixth form courses also collected their AS results. Many of them will continue to follow the courses into the second year of the sixth form and convert their grades into A-levels next year.
