A Helston man's dream to run a new commercial radio station in Cornwall has come to an end following a High Court decision and a refusal for a judicial review.

John Grierson, who lives at The Lizard, failed in his campaign to re-open the discussion as to who should run the new station. Mr Grierson of Pentreath Road, is well known in the area and has been active in the Friends of the Lizard group for some years.

But it was always his plan to organise a new radio station for Cornwall and for the past few years had set up CKFM with a team of enthusiasts including Dennis Gartside, head of faculty at University College Falmouth and chairman of Mawnan Smith parish council to run it.

He was stunned when CKFM did not win the bid and refuted the decision by Ofcom, the radio licensing authority, to award a new commercial radio licence to Atlantic Broadcasting Ltd.

His attempt to overturn the Ofcom decision, however, was taken privately. He claimed the decision was flawed by a failure to take full account of all competing views and research, particularly on the key issue of local demand.
