Group delight and individual success stories made Truro a happy place to be last Thursday as 16-year-olds across the city celebrated high exam results.

Following the national trend, students in the city scored highly in their GCSE examinations with many schools reporting record-breaking results.

Students from the city's state schools were no exception, with both Penair School and Richard Lander School reporting high standards.

Truro's independent school pupils excelled themselves again this year achieving a GCSE pass rate of more than 90 per cent.

Truro School pupils were celebrating some of the best results in the county, with a total of 19 out of the school's 117 GCSE pupils achieving A* and A passes.
