Green-fingered Kerrier residents have seen their efforts rewarded in the district council's annual gardens competition.

Once again, the team of seven expert judges had a difficult task separating entrants of an extremely high standard, with some talented new gardeners joining the older hands.

In the south of the district, there was particular success for Dorothy Pelling, of Porthallow, who won the cup for the best garden in the south section, as well as awards for the best medium-sized garden in the district and the best garden by a pensioner.

The south also dominated the business section, with gardeners at Flambards in Helston scooping several awards, including best business in the district. The Lion and Lamb at Ashton was the runner-up in the same category.
