THERE are fears that the swimming pool at Avishayes Community Primary School, in Chard, could close unless more people are prepared to help with fundraising.

The Avishayes Swimming Pool PTFA Committee is desperately in need of new members, and committee secretary Jackie Moulding said: "It is our intention to make several improvements to the pool over the next few years, but if we don't get more committee members it is possible that the pool will close.

"The asbestos and cement sheet roof is showing signs of its age now and replacing it is a major job which will include relining the pool.

"Losing the pool would be detrimental to the whole community, and if anyone would like to help our next meeting is being held in the school hall on September 22."

The committee thanked all the children who took part in a recent sponsored swim to raise money for the pool.

The ten children swam 385 lengths and raised £385 in aid of replacing the pool's ageing roof.
