RUMOURS that the Somerset County Gazette-sponsored Wel-lington Carnival this month has been cancelled are totally untrue, organisers said this week.

There were concerns that this year's parade would have to be called off due to the scaffolding outside the former Discount Stores, in High Street, which are owned by supermarket chain Somerfield.

The positioning of the scaffolding meant that some of the very large carnival floats that travel from around the county to take part in the procession would not be able to get along the High Street on the original route.

However, with the help of some of the town councillors, the route has been slightly changed to go the other side of the bollards in the street so that the floats will not get stuck.
