ST GLUVIAS clinched promotion to County Division One with a comprehensive eight-wicket victory at St Just.

Taking first knock, St Just made the respectable total of 183, a total that appeared good enough to prove a real test for the batsmen. However, the visitors adapted well to the conditions and were largely untroubled throughout their innings.

Of the home batsmen Ben McCarthy top scored with 37 and he was followed by M Grenville 29, R Harvey 28, and D Sawle 20. There were 20 extras.

Jon Udy bowled well for St Gluvias and in his 12 overs took 4-34. He had good support from Will Deerness 2-39, Fraser King 2-38, Andy Julian 1-46, and Matt Pease 1-19.

Any thoughts of St Gluvias being made to struggle for runs were quickly dispelled as openers Pease and King put on 68 for the first wicket with King hitting seven fours in his 42.

The 100-mark was passed before St Just gained their second and last success when Matt Pease was dismissed for 39, a knock that included one six and six fours.

Will Deerness was joined by Jon Udy and together the set about steering the visitors to victory without losing another wicket.
