There has been a magnificent entry of in excess of 120 competitors - from an excellent spread of 27 English and Welsh counties - for the Duchy of Cornwall 23rd "Open" Badminton Championships scheduled for Carn Brea Leisure Centre, Pool, near Redruth, on September 17 and 18.

Hampshire are sending down a party of 30, whereas Devon are providing 18 entries, with Cornwall, the host, replying with ten entries.

There is a record entry of 61 in the men's singles, with 18 in the corresponding ladies' event, which will see Exton's Betty Blair bidding for a remarkable eighth title.

The men's doubles and ladies' doubles has 31 and 11 entries, respectively, with the mixed doubles discipline receiving 30.

The seeding and draw was made earlier this week with international referee David Burgess in attendance.
