A PUBLIC vote could be held to give Redruth residents the chance to have their say on whether they want a police station in the town centre or not.
Redruth county councillor Graeme Hicks is opposed to Redruth town council's scheme to buy the ground floor of their Penryn Street base to house a "shop front" police station.
He has demanded the town council's police station proposal goes to a public meeting, and a local referendum is held, unless councillors can show him proof they have consulted the town's residents.
"I would strongly urge the council to reflect seriously on the wisdom of its plans to purchase the remainder of their Penryn Street premises for the purposes of letting to another organisation.
