THE growing Save Our Sleeper campaign is taking the fight to save the London-Penzance sleeper train to Downing Street later this month, as bidders for the Greater Western rail franchise prepare to submit their offers to the government.
Campaigners, including some high-profile names, are set to present a petition outside No 10 on September 14 to demonstrate the massive support for the train service. They are expected to be joined by four of Cornwall's MPs, who are backing the campaign.
Supporters of the service are being urged to add their names to the Save Our Sleepers petition at www.saveoursleeper.com by September 10.
Save Our Sleeper joint chairman Andrew Roden said: "There's genuine support to save the Night Riviera, and we're going to prove that to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.
We've already got more than 2,500 signatures, but I want to break the 3,000 mark and send a clear message to the government: 'hands off our sleeper service'."
