A team from Falmouth based company Triskel Marine are entering in The Pickle Challenge on the weekend of September 17-18. The Challenge consists of a 285 mile cycle ride starting in the Events Square in Falmouth, and finishing 36 hours later in Trafalgar Square in London.
To make it even more challenging, half of the ride is off-road. The route follows as close as possible to the original journey taken by Lt Lapenotiere, commander of HMS Pickle, as he brought news of Nelson's death, and victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The challenge is part of the SeaBritain 2005 celebrations. Team member Kevin Congdon, technical director of Triskel, said: "This is a great opportunity to combine a real challenge as well as raising money for a good cause.
Seafarers UK is a charity that can make a difference to the lives of so many Cornish people who have worked at sea and their families. It's nice to think we can have an effect on people's quality of life."
Each team aims to raise £2,500 in aid of Seafarers UK (formerly King George's Fund for Sailors). Triskel's sponsors so far include Clive Mitchell Cycles, Cotic Cycles and Europecar, as well as many friends and colleagues, but they still need more help to reach the target. All donations are welcome, no matter how large or small.
