The new-look Helston Harvest Fair was largely a success, according to town mayor Paul Phillips.

The three-day event of previous years was slimmed down to two days, with the horticultural and craft show traditionally held on the Monday moved to Saturday, and the children's pet show and dog show moved from Saturday to Sunday.

Mr Phillips said the changes appeared to have paid off, with several of the events enjoying larger numbers of entries than in previous years.

"Overall I think the change of date was a success," he said. "It was the first year we were trying it and while you can't expect miracles we were looking for improvement, which I think we got.

"There were some down points - the fun day was very sparsely attended and I didn't see a lot of people around the stalls - but there were no complaints and I think everyone was satisfied. It is something to build on for next year."
