MOBILE phone giant O2 has backed down from its proposal to build a transmitter in Taunton - a move described as "an absolute success" by the leader of the council.
Cllr John Williams revealed his delight at O2's decision to look for a new site for the 15-metre mast, which was earmarked for Shoreditch Road.
Cllr Williams said despite all the problems with phone mast planning applications it was the hard work of residents which made it possible.
