A ROYAL Marine from Norton Manor Camp-based 40 Commando has been killed in Afghanistan.
He is the 11th member of 40 Commando to die there in the past month.
The Ministry of Defence announced that he died in Sangin yesterday in an explosion while on foot patrol.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand Lieut Col James Carr-Smith, said: "It is with great sadness I must inform you that a marine from 40 Commando Royal Marines was killed by an explosion in Sangin yesterday evening.
"He was part of a joint foot patrol, along with his fellow Marines and Afghan National Army partners, when he was struck by an explosion.
"He died a marine, in the course of his duty and whilst improving the lives of local nationals in Sangin.
"His bravery and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We will remember him."
Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.

Taunton Deane Mayor Cllr Jefferson Horsley said: "I know how deeply the Taunton Deane community feels when news of death or injury affecting 40 Commando is released.
"Taunton Deane has long and close links with the Royal Marines through their base at Norton Manor Camp.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of the Royal Marine who has lost his life in Sangin, we share their grief.
"I would like to pay tribute to the Marine’s service in very difficult times and in a very dangerous environment.”
