THE work of a famous local artist and sculptor has been donated to Somerset College.
The donation of Rachel Reckitt’s work coincides with a major exhibition starting in Crowcombe from October 15-24.
Reckitt, who died in 1995, originally studied at the School of Art in Taunton which later became part of Somerset College.
Taunton couple Louise and David Walker of Prioryfield House Business Centre, who own a major collection of Rachel Reckitt’s art and sculpture, presented a metal and wood construction ‘Canal Bridges’ to College Principal Rachel Davies before the upcoming exhibition.
This will be the last chance to see the collection in one place before it is dispersed.
“We are delighted with this gift and it’s particularly apt as the artist trained at the original College of Art in Taunton, which became part of Somerset College,” said Rachel Davies, Principal of Somerset College.
“It also is doubly welcome as part of the aim of the Taunton Visual Arts Consortium which I am involved in, is to build up a major collection of art works in the area.”
