A GRANT of £5,000 has boosted a Minehead school's swimming pool fund.
St Michael's First School PTA has been working hard to raise £70,000 to replace the pool and the Somerset Community Foundation grant takes the total to £47,000.
PTA chair Tracey Sweetland said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this money - it's absolutely fantastic news.
“We are really grateful for the support we are getting from the community, parents and local businesses. We are doing really well.”
The current pool has not only reached the end of its life, but is also expensive to operate; new facilities would reduce running costs and improve its environmental efficiency.
The aim is to enable every child in West Somerset to learn to swim, and for each pupil leaving the school to be able to swim 25metres and have a basic understanding of survival.
The next fundraising event is a Diamond Jubilee fete at the West Somerset Leisure Centre in Minehead on Monday, June 4.
