DESPITE a marked reduction in the number of entries for this year’s Dunster Horticultural Society Flower Show on Saturday, judges were pleased to see some high quality exhibits on the show benches.

Although there were fewer entries in flower, fruit and vegetable classes due to the challenging weather earlier in the year, the weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the cooks which meant home-craft classes were well supported.

Society president Julian Luttrell congratulated the exhibitors on their efforts in a difficult year for gardeners before presenting the trophies and awards.

The latest addition to the proceedings was a People’s Choice trophy donated by Dr and Mrs Nicholson to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee and this was won by Mr J. Moon.

Show secretary Kath Moon told the County Gazette: “There was a good level of entries too in the arts and crafts sections with some beautiful work on display and the children’s entries were as colourful and imaginative as ever.

“When the Tithe Barn doors opened to the public in the afternoon there were plenty of visitors.”

The afternoon was rounded off with a raffle and sale of produce from the show and the society’s chairman Ruth Webber thanked the judges, patrons and all the helpers who had worked hard to ensure the show’s success.
