A SPECIAL charity football match went ahead despite the rain on Saturday at West Somerset Community College in Minehead and raised £350.

Minehead Barbarians Rugby Club and Alcombe Rovers Football Club battled it out with the rugby players winning 5-1.

Daniel James organised the match as part of a bigger fundraising campaign for his friends’ twin sons who have cerebral palsy.

He said: “The Minehead Barbarians played very well and deserved the win. I’d like to thank everybody who supported us – from the players to the chefs, everybody played their part to help make the day a great success.

“It was a great boost to funds leading up to the charity night in Bristol on October 27, when I’m hoping to raise more than £5,000, which will be an amazing achievement in four months. Everybody has been so kind along the way with their support.”

Daniel will hold the evening event at The Kings Arms in Whiteladies Road to buy specialised bikes for Jake and Theo Shopland, four, from Porlock and give them to the Bristol Children’s Hospital where the twins have been treated since they were born.
