A NEW boxing club in Watchet has received a grant for £1,000 at its official opening.

The High Sheriff of Somerset, Sylvana Chandler, and PCSO Rachel Cutler presented the cheque from the Somerset Crime Beat Fund to Tavern Amateur Boxing Club (ABC).

The presentation coincided with the club’s open day, during which more than 100 people came to see the new premises at the West Somerset Hotel and learned more about getting involved in classes there.

Club treasurer Ian Human said: “It is fantastic to have the support of so many local businesses and community members and our brilliant PCSO and High Sheriff.

“We do not discriminate, so we hope we can welcome as many people in the community to come and use the facility, whether they want to box or just keep fit. We offer fantastic value for money, with membership from as little as £1 a month, making it more accessible than ever.”
