PATIENTS at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton are more likely to survive serious infections, new figures show.

Two more patients a month now survive septicaemia-related conditions (blood poisoning) than they did three years ago.

Since 2009 consultant physician Rudi Matull has led Musgrove’s drive to improve treatment for sepsis.

He said: “By checking everyone on admission we can identify it at a much earlier stage and start treatment before it takes hold.

“Most patients identified with sepsis now receive treatment within an hour.”
