A LORRY and crane collided with a railway bridge this evening (August 12) at Sampford Arundel.
The incident happened shortly before 6pm at Beam Bridge and one fire engine from Wellington was called out.
Network Rail placed a caution on the line for oncoming trains to the possible safety implications of the bridge. A structural engineer was also in attendance to assess the damage to the bridge.
A full ''blockade'' was placed on the line by Network Rail, while the lorry and crane was removed from under the bridge.
An interpreter was also called in to assist with communicating to the foreign driver of the lorry.
