STUDENTS across Somerset were anxiously awaiting their A-Level results, which are due to be published today (August 16).

For those considering whether to go to university, an additional consideration this year will be the extra expense involved following the controversial introduction of 'top-up fees'.

Advice is on hand for anyone who doesn't achieve the grades they had hoped for from organisations such as UCAS.

A spokesman said: “Our advisors - including our social media team - are ready to help applicants through the Confirmation and Clearing process.

“Applicants can log in to Track on the UCAS website from 8am on results day to see if they have been accepted or are eligible for Clearing.

“Students should also check their email and the post for Confirmation letters. Students who want to consider a Clearing place can start looking at courses with vacancies from early in the morning on the day and they should discuss courses that interest them directly with the universities and colleges as soon as possible.

“Courses with vacancies are listed on the UCAS website. Formal applications to Clearing courses can be made through UCAS from 5pm.”
