HOMELESS people in Taunton Deane are to receive extra help under a Government scheme titled 'No Second Night Out'.

The Taunton Association for the Homeless group has been awarded £189,589 to tackle rough sleeping in the district, it was announced this week.

TAH will work with Taunton Deane Council to provide a phone line for the public to connect rough sleepers to local services and a new outreach team.

It will also aim to move homeless people into longer-term housing more quickly.

John Shipley, chief executive of TAH, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded this grant which will help tackle the growing problem of rough sleeping.

“Our specialist team will focus on quickly moving new rough sleepers off the streets into emergency accommodation and tackling the very complex needs of those who have been trapped in the destructive cycle of long term rough sleeping.”
