OFFICERS and volunteers from the Taunton East Neighbourhood Policing team hosted a football and family fun day at Taunton Academy’s south site.

The event combined a youth six-a-side tournament with rides, stalls, a car boot sale, and demonstrations of Zumba, karate and streetdance.

Local groups, shops and partner agencies promoted their work, while the RSPCA provided ID chipping for pets.

The football involved 15 teams with awards presented by district councillor Jane Warmington.

Saturday's (August 11) event moved to North Taunton for the first time after previous successful community days in Hamilton Park.

Acting Sgt Jon O’Connor said: “It was a fantastic day for all the family, and I’d like to thank everybody involved in supporting and bringing it together.”

The initiative comes as crime detection rates in North Taunton hit an all-time high with around one in two crimes solved.

Sgt O’Connor said: “I’m committed to providing the highest levels of policing and will continue to ensure that North Taunton remains a safe place in which to live and work.

“Days such as this demonstrate the strong sense of community spirit in this area.”
