A BOOST for businesses in Minehead has been launched in the form of a web application for smart devices.

The Minehead Town Guide App has been developed by West Somerset Council and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store of Google Play websites for use on smartphones or computer tablets.

It provides information about shops, restaurants, accommodation and other attractions in the town as well as guiding people around new heritage trails which pinpoint key places in Minehead's history.

Cllr David Sanders, cabinet member for economic regeneration and tourism said: “People planning a trip to Minehead can now do so before leaving their homes by discovering what sort of businesses and services are on offer.

“Once they are here they can use the GPS-enabled maps to navigate their way around, which will be particularly good for finding businesses not on the main parade.

“Visitors can learn more about the town's history and famous personalities, such as A C Clarke, and choose from three interactive heritage trails that highlight many of the town's points of interest. There will also be lots of scope for future development.”

Any businesses and services in Minehead which would like to be included on the app for free can contact the council on 01984-635326.
