THE 18-month sentence handed to Leanne Burnell for causing the death by dangerous driving of 13-year-old cyclist Amy Hofmeister is to be reviewed by the Court of Appeal.

Amy's mother, Jane, and the CPS referred the sentence to the Attorney General on the grounds of "undue leniency".

Thousands of people have supported Mrs Hofmeister's campaign to get the jail term increased.

The case is likely to be heard in London in October following the intervention of Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC.
