MORE than 3,000 people enjoyed activities such as archery, karate, football, golf, fencing, cake making and a bug hotel at a family fun day in French Weir Park.

Cllr Justine Baker, of the Friends of French Weir, who organised the event, said: “It was a brilliant success and everyone had a great time.

“What makes it stand out is that most of the activities are free and others are heavily subsidised to make sure it’s a day accessible for all.

“The ethos behind the event is about interaction and fun, so we go to great lengths to make sure the activities are different and maybe not something many of the children would have had the chance easily to take part in before.

“There really was something for everyone, from a dog display, zumba workshops to creating a bug hotel. With it being the last day of the Olympics we wanted to make sure that we had some different sports for children to try.

“Thank you all those that gave up their time to help or came along and joined in the fun – we’re already planning next year’s.”
