SAINSBURY’S in Taunton have teamed up with a hairdresser in the town to hold an in-store fund-raising event for charity.

The Purple Room, a salon based in Corporation Street, donated their car for a competition at the super-market’s Billet Street branch.

Customers paid £1 to guess the number of balloons put inside the car. The lucky winner received a free cut and blow dry from the salon’s director.

£80 was raised for Escape, a charity supporting special needs children in Somerset. The charity was officially chosen by Sainsbury’s for their Local Charity Partnership this year.

Organiser Michael Coles, who works as an online shopper for Sainsbury’s, says he hopes to hold future fundraising events for Escape.

He said: “It was a fantastic event and a really good advert for local businesses working together to raise money for a really good cause.

“The turnout was great. Massive thanks to The Purple Room for their kind donation and helping with the event.”
