THE coffers of County Gazette-backed charity Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) have been boosted by over £3,000 in the past fortnight.
Among the cash handed over, which will be used to equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, has been £810 from Leanne Edwards, of Watchet, through a raffle at her local pub and an auction; £645 from Sheila and Derek Cleeve, from cream teas; £200 from Thurloxton Gardening Club; £46.75 from Mr and Mrs Barnett; £30 from Mollie Eastwood from the sale of various items; £27 from Anne Langley from an afternoon of tea and poetry reading; £658.58 from Ilminster Rotary Club; £300 from the Inner Wheel of the Quantocks; and £20 from Brian Woolley.
The 5p collections are £291.20 from the Beacon Centre, including £18.70 from Mr and Mrs Crawford, £20 from Mrs Coombs and £12 from the Hard of Hearing Club; a donation of £10 in memory of Michael Fairburn; £60 from Mollie Eastwood and friends; £15 from Kathy Channon; £55 in memory of Mr T. Tandy; £50 from Mr and Mrs Wheaton in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, and £50 from Peter Cross.
A collection box yielded £8.33 at Morgans fish and chip shop in Taunton.
The total amount raised for SURE since it joined forces with the Gazette now stands at £294,911.
