FUN and floats will fill the streets of Porlock next Saturday (September 1) as the village’s annual carnival returns.

The Wellington Majorettes will kick off the event at 5.30pm in Parsons Street, before village crier Clive Downs will lead the procession and Olympic torchbearer Tilly Adlington will be joined by members of the fire service and coastguards to pave the way for the carnival classes.

Bands and stilt walkers will join the procession, while food and entertainment will be on offer at the Big Red Cow and the village hall, where cups and rosettes will be awarded at 7.30pm with Carnival Queen Ellie Dean-Smith and princesses Willow-Rose Oriarna-Jewel and Charlotte Connor in attendance.

Float categories include multiple ones for adults and juniors, as well as trade people and visitors, with entry forms available from Chanin and Thomas which can be returned to The Cottage B&B, both in Porlock High Street.

There will be free parking at both ends of the village and at Sparkhayes Campsite, with the High Street and connecting roads being closed for the duration of the procession.
