VISITORS can finish off the holiday period with the West Somerset Railway’s late summer weekend event.

On Saturday and Sunday, three steam and three vintage diesel locomotives will be heading an hourly train service between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead.

The popular ‘Driver for a Fiver’ offer returns, with amateurs able to try their hands at the controls of a locomotive.

A model railway and museum at Bishops Lydeard as well as museums in Washford and Blue Anchor stations are among the attractions along the line.

Paul Conibeare, WSR general manager, said: “The Late Summer Weekend will round off what has been a busy August for the Railway, despite the weather of the summer of 2012.

“Certainly, there is enough to keep us all busy well into the autumn and we are already getting bookings for our Christmas trains.”
