ROYAL Marines are preparing to fly out to Afghanistan this week.

A group of 650 troops from 40 Commando, based at Norton Manor Camp, Norton Fitzwarren, are going on a six-month tour of duty in Nahr-e-saraj, Helmand Province.

Commanding Officer Lt Col Matt Jackson said: "The security situation in Afghanistan has really demonstrably improved."

The tour of duty will involve 40 Commando training the Afghan National Security Forces.

Sgt John Jeffries, of Delta Company, is not being deployed after the death of his daughter but he wished the boys well.

He added: "I hope they have a safe and productive tour and that they all come back home safe and well."

Let's show the Marines we're supporting them during their time away.

You can display one of our 'We're Backing Our Boys' posters available from our offices in St James Street, Taunton, and Buff Urban Day Spa, in Station Road, Taunton.
