THIS is the full statement issued today by Somerset Cricket Club.

"Brian Rose to step down as Director of Cricket at Somerset After almost a lifetime of distinguished service to Somerset County Cricket Club , Brian Rose has decided by mutual agreement to step down as the Director of Cricket on completion of the 2012 season.

Chairman, Andy Nash said: "Brian has uniquely served the Club with great distinction as a player, Captain and latterly as the Director of Cricket. He remains the Club's most successful Captain winning five trophies, and since 2004 has transformed the performance of the First Team taking them from the bottom of the second division to one of the most consistent and competitive sides in all three competitions’.

He added: "He has also overseen substantial and lasting improvements in our age-groups, player's pathway and Academy which has resulted in the development of abundant young talent, many of whom have achieved First Team contracts and international honours.

"We are delighted that he has offered to provide ongoing advice next year which will allow us to draw on his immense knowledge and understanding of the game. This decision provides the Club with the opportunity to take stock and ensure we are effectively positioned for the 2013 season."

Brian Rose said: "I have had immense pride in overseeing the development ofSomersetcricket over the last 8 seasons as Director of Cricket. Our progress in that time from the age groups through to the First Team has been outstanding with teams competing at the highest levels across the board. The cricket played by our teams has been highly attractive to watch and is reflected by the fantastic support from Members and supporters. I also take a lot of pride in the development of the talented young cricketers that are now representingEngland, England Lions and England U19's.

"After the result at the SWALEC stadium and another defeat on Finals Day, I have come to the conclusion that a new and fresh approach is needed at First Team level. I will continue to try and assist the Club in meeting its core objective of winning trophies.

He added: "The success of the Club off the pitch and the real financial strength it has achieved has been remarkable. It has allowed greater investment in the development of our cricket structure in tandem with the wonderful transformation of the County Ground inTaunton making it one of the most atmospheric stadiums in which to play cricket. The future development on the south side of the ground should ensure International ODI’s and make Taunton a unique place in world cricket. Somerset County Cricket Club is extremely well placed to prosper in the future and I look forward to seeing this magnificent Club go on to even greater things."
