ORGANISERS of a celebrity football match and evening entertainment have praised the support they received saying it is ‘crucial’ for the upkeep of the village’s football and cricket clubs.
More than 200 people turned out to watch North Curry Football Club beat TV presenter Gethin Jones’ All Stars team 4-2.
Evening entertainment at the White Street Sports Club ground also proved a hit with a bar, hog roast and ten-piece band Soul Solutions.
In total, organisers said they raised around £3,000 and explained how crucial these funds are.
Chairman of North Curry Cricket Club and goalkeeper during the match, James Midgley, said: “It is absolutely vital to keep the cricket and football clubs going.
“Most of the village came out to support the day, which is great to see, and I thank everyone who came. It was a great day and huge success.”
James Mears was man of the match after his two goals made sure of the win.
Callum Hardy and Lee Welsh also scored and celebrities on the day included Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere along with Holby City and Harry Potter cast members.
