A GYMNASIUM which was controversially closed for the summer is set to re-open on Monday (September 10).

1610 Ltd, which runs the gym in Dulverton, was criticised after temporarily shutting the site for financial reasons. Exmoor Gym, a community-based organisation was set up in the meantime, operating ‘pop-up’ sessions in All Saints Church.

Gail Livingstone, spokeswoman for 1610 Ltd, said: “The gym closed earlier this year for the summer months. “During the closure there has been a public consultation on what users would like with the trialling of things such as boxercise and spin classes.

“Yoga, pilates and body conditioning will be offered as part of the new-look facilities on offer when the gym reopens.”

Ms Livingstone said 1610 Ltd would monitor take-up at the gym and then make decisions on its future.

Exmoor Gym chairman Dr Sarah Blackburn said the group would keep a close eye on the reopened facility and ‘will be ready to pick up the pieces’ should the venture fail.
