THE coroner for West Somerset has written to the Secretary of State for Transport after the inquest into the death of Bethany-Paige Adams.

Bethany, 17, from Williton, was a passenger in a car being driven at high speed by Charlie Blandford-Corp before it crashed on the A358. He had passed his test just months before.

Coroner Michael Rose, who has a duty to seek to prevent further fatalities, could request that new drivers display a letter on the back of their vehicle and not exceed 50/60mph on roads where 60/70mph is the maximum for 12 months.

He is waiting to hear how many cases there have been in the last ten years of new drivers causing death or serious injury in their first year before making a formal recommendation.
