A PERMANENT memorial to the victims of the Beaminster Tunnel tragedy could be included when it is rebuilt.

Rosemary Snell, 67, and her partner Michael Rolfe, 72, died in July when their car was crushed under tonnes of rubble when a landslide caused the tunnel to collapse.

Their bodies were not discovered until nine days after the July 7 collapse when police looking for the missing couple traced their bank records.

Now, engineers at Dorset County Council are examining options for repairing the tunnel and officials have called for a memorial to be included to Ms Snell, of Misterton, and Mr Rolfe, from Fivehead.

Work to repair the tunnel is expected to take six months.

An open meeting was held at Beaminster Public Hall last night (October 18) where people got more information about plans to repair the tunnel.
