A LOCATION in Somerset is the third most haunted place in the UK, according to the editor of Haunted Magazine.
HMP Shepton Mallet Prison is said to have ghostly visits from the detained murderers, victims of brutal executions and suicides.
The research, conducted by editor Paul Stevenson, was commissioned by Amazon Prime Video after their launch of the new series Truth Seekers.
“It’s exciting to hear about amateur paranormal sightings across the UK and these findings show the chances of witnessing something spooky in your town are high,” Paul said.
“As seen in Truth Seekers, there is a growing interest in ghost-hunting and I hope that Brits across the country pick up some tips when they tune in on Friday, October 30.”
HMP Shepton Mallet is a prison that closed in 2013, and is now a tourist attraction.
Visitors can tour the prison and learn about the prisoners, the executions and explore the building.
One recent visitor said: “The prison is super eerie. I can definitely see why it is haunted and I would not like to stay there by myself.
“The tour was really interesting, but I was definitely happy to leave before closing time.”

The study also discovered one in five people (20 per cent) claim to have seen a ghost with their own eyes and over one in ten (11 per cent) have seen a ghost in the past year.
Fifteen per cent of those questioned believe their house is haunted by spirits with one in eight (12 per cent) believing children’s toys to be the household item most likely to be “possessed”.
Truth Seekers is a supernatural comedy drama series about a team of part-time paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film ghost sightings across the UK, sharing their adventures on an online channel for all to see.
