THE Annual Spotlight Sale for elite pedigrees at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, now in its fifth year, generated tremendous interest from breeders across all breadths of the UK & Ireland to a top price of 6300gns.
Topping the days prices was the much-admired show calf "Churchvale Solomon Rachel" consigned by Richard Thomas and family from Carmarthen. This stylish calf was out of VG88-2yr Sid who traces back to "Rockset Faber Rachel", after spirited bidding Randolph Miller and son Brian secured her for their renowned Moorshard Herd.
Lot one commenced proceedings in style being the VG88 Red second calver who had been recently scored with an excellent Mammary and was a granddaughter of the world famous "Rainyridge Talent Barabara". Consigned by Panda Holsteins at 3,800gns she was one of many lots that make their way across the water this year for successful Irish purchasers.
John and Mary Hill consigned four super heifers with a Flagship from the Ladys-Manor S family commanding 3700gns selling to Tom Reed of Gatcombe.
Another successful part of the Welsh contingent achieved 3600gns for Hefyn Wilson and family with their stylish Callen show calf from the Denmire Marie family also joining the Miller's Moorshard herd.
Two heifers that travelled south from Dumfries & Cumbria were rewarded with a worthwhile journey down to Sedgemoor selling to 3200gns and 3100gns for "Belle Sol Australia" & "Auchensale Diamondback Rox 2" respectively.
Jerseys consigned by Barry and Jenny Daw from their Bluegrass herd were in great demand selling to a top of 3000gns for a super incalf heifer with show potential from the Blondette family.
Brown Swiss also made the journey down from Dumfries with Johnny Locheads "Kedar Blooming Jamiaca" achieving 2750gns, the heifer was incalf to sexed semen, from a show winning family and travels to Essex to her new home.
With successful local purchasers joined by those from Cornwall to Carmarthen, across to Essex and as far as Scotland and Ireland there is no doubt that the sale created tremendous interest due to the quality stock on offer resulting in an impressive 90% clearance rate and the following averages achieved:
