GREENSLADE Taylor Hunt’s Annual Christmas Cracker Show and Sale proved an excellent finale to 2018 with no less than 19 lots breaking through the £2000 barrier to top at 2750gns for a well-bred calved heifer from Wiltor.
The annual show and sale saw its champion, tapped out by Judge Keith Sheldon take the top priced cow at 2150gns, she was “Bartonwood Zeber Marion 52nd” who was consigned by JS Bird & Son and was fresh with her second and sold locally to Coombes Manor Farm. Other cows sold to 2100 and 2000gns for second calvers by “Bookem” and “Iota” from regular consignors Roland & Simon Bugler (Bettiscombe). The champion was sponsored by ForFarmers and we are extremely grateful to all our sponsors including Lake & Co Chartered Certified Accountants, Mastergen, Wadland Finance, and NMR.
The top price of the day came for “Wiltor Penmanship Cassidy 4th” who was bred from the “Chassity Barbie” family and sold to our show winning Bartonwood Herd for 2750gns, her two full sisters with some of the highest PLI’s in the sale at £535 and £526 sold for 2250gns and 2200gns. The Reserve Champion was also the first prized calved heifer presented by DC Dennis & Sons from their Dinnaton herd she sold for 2020gns. Others to exceed 2000gns was RE & HE Bugler & Partners, Rookhaye Estates and Dimond Farming Ltd.
As in previous years our Christmas sale attracted some top pedigrees to include a yearling heifer from J & M Hill bred from the same family as top AI Bull “Ladys Manor Shamrock” she sold for 1900gns and a 6 month old show calf from Panda Holsteins sold for 1500gns.
Bulls sold to 2100gns for “Starlet Andy Pandy” from the Ashlyn family from Rickard & Webber and 1700gns for “Curscombe Rockstar” from CRJ & JA Bishop.
Incalf heifers sold well for the strong types to top at 1380gns for a non-pedigree heifer from KJ Waldon & Partners. Pedigree heifers from GJ & FL Robertson sold to 1340gns for “Dayhouse Hurst Stephanie”.
