Coronation Street star Calum Lill is to leave the cobbles after just a year on the show as his character's downfall comes closer and closer.

The actor, who previously starred in Hollyoaks, joined the ITV soap opera last year but could be pursuing a new job very soon.

In recent months, it was revealed that he has a darker side with him being the cause of Lauren Bolton's disappearance.

Corrie star Calum Lill to leave ITV show after only a year

A Coronation Street source told The Sun newspaper: "Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year but he always knew it would be for a fixed term."

They added: "He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon."

Discussing his upcoming job, the source said: "He’s already landed his first job after the show and so he’ll be finished in time to start rehearsals for that. But on-screen Joel has no idea what’s coming for him as his dark secrets start to be exposed."

This comes after a number of exits from the show were confirmed in recent months with legends like Helen Worth, who played Gail Rodwell, leaving the show later this year.

She is set to leave the show after 50 years on the cobbles after a major storyline involving the Platt family.

Discussing this she said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
